Animal watching

Zoos offer a marvellous opportunity to develop your animal observation skills and build an understanding of how we study animal behaviour.

This activity was developed for use in a zoo that had a really nice group of Humboldt’s penguins, in a naturalistic enclosure that allowed easy observation of a wide range of behaviours. You will see these behaviours with other penguins.

If you would like to try out the worksheets, download the pictures for your PowerPoint but don’t forget the print-quality student worksheets and leader’s notes.
